Our mission is to equip young adults to be: lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ; committed to world mission of the church; prepared to live and communicate their faith with multi-cultural sensitivity; and able to make decisions of life-style and life direction based upon biblical truth and global realities.
Our Purpose
The purpose of UDC is to produce young adults ready for ministry and missions assignments. We desire to do this in a multi-cultural setting through a program designed to promote character development as well as calling and ministry skills in a mentoring environment with urban ministry experiences.
At UDC you will learn to express God’s love through Christian lifestyle, relationships, service and witness by developing a more dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ and a greater sensitivity to the Spirit of God. You will discover how to best share the good news of Jesus in an urban setting and communicate Christ’s love through both word and compassionate service to people. The UDC provides an environment where a life-long commitment to Kingdom service is nurtured.
Urban Discipleship Center is a Brethren In Christ school for people with a heart for urban ministry. Through a combination of urban training, onsite practical ministry and actually living in a city neighborhood, we aim to train you to reach people in cities around the world for Christ.
Our emphasis is:
Training: Our "hands on" urban training build a template for practical application in the city. Our Staff Training Team will lead you in city orientation, Ministry Site Training, prep times, and debrief sessions where your experiences can be applied to your hometown or city.
Teaching: Our small group style teaching sessions aim to train participants in many aspects of city ministry. This is accomplished through a combination of classroom and hands on training in city outreaches which includes local ministries and churches.
Touching: UDC emphasized meeting people on every level from Main Street to Back Street to Wall Street with a specialized focus on the poor. This involves a broad based selection of ministry sites and locations.
Transforming: UDC links Christian workers to urban needs on the streets, in the AIDS Hospital, with the homeless, soup kitchens, shelter outreaches, street meetings, children Bible Club programs in the parks throughout NYC and with the forgotten.
